Do you know that August comes from the Latin word augustus, meaning “consecrated” or “venerable,” which in turn is related to the Latin augur, meaning “consecrated by augury or “auspicious.” In 8 B.C. the Roman Senate honored Augustus Caesar, the first Roman emperor, by changing the name of their month “Sextilis” to “Augustus.” Middle English speakers inherited the name of the month of August, but it wasn’t until the mid-1600s that “august” came to be used generically in English, more or less as “augustus” was in Latin, to refer to someone with imperial qualities.
All year, you’ve been working hard towards cultivating a healthy yoga practice, and by now it’s bound to be paying off. You’ll feel healthier, stronger, and more flexible. Your mind will be centered and more at ease. You may even have new friendships or deeper relationships with the people you love. Thanks to yoga, you’ll already be a new and improved you–and there are still four months left in the year!
Be sure to take some time and enjoy the benefits you’ve earned with your yoga practice. Have fun with friends, treat yourself to a new outfit, take a trip to celebrate all your hard work. Of course, we suggest you keep up your yoga practice throughout the month, but we’re willing to bet that won’t be a problem. Once you’re comfortable with it, yoga is too much fun to give up!
HEAT SHOCK PROTEINS AND HOT YOGA
Unless you’re an avid reader of anatomy and physiology, you probably haven’t heard of heat shock proteins. Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) are an often-overlooked aspect of muscle building that play an important role in the hypertrophy, or muscle building, process. HSPs not only help increase protein synthesis and stimulate new muscle cells growth, they reduce protein breakdown and help trigger a number of other muscle building pathways.

DEA – STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Meet wonderful, beautiful, amazing Dea, one of Cary Hot Yoga Yogis that has been with us since the beginning. We opened our doors in December 2015 and Dea was there with us on the first month. Dea has been practicing Bikram yoga for all most ten years. Over the course of her time here at Cary Hot Yoga, we have seen a tremendous transformation in her practice. We are so proud that Dea participated in our Teacher Training Program for Spring 2016. Starting this August, Dea will join our team of teachers who will continue to bring health and wellness services into our community.
