October events and activities

As we age, certain exercises become tough on the body—running, weight lifting, even cycling. Yoga and Pilates will keep an active body and mind while avoiding the high-impact, high-intensity workouts we enjoyed in our younger years. Here are five reasons why we should do yoga and Pilates together:

Yoga helps to improve balance, mobility, and flexibility.
This one is not very surprising. Yoga asanas (poses) greatly improve flexibility in the joints, helping us to be more mobile while also working on balance.

Yoga aids in hypertension.
Hypertension is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular death in older populations. One study found that yoga is effective in reducing oxidative stress in elderly, hypertensive individuals.

Yoga helps to minimize depression.
A study found that yoga is valuable in helping to diminish depression, pain, and fatigue and helps cancer patients perform daily activities more easily, resulting in an improved quality of life.

Yoga improves cognitive function and sleep quality.
It’s true that if you don’t use it, you lose it. The act of physical and mental awareness keeps the brain active and strong. This study showed improvement in memory and attention in elderly people after regular yoga practice.

New Mindful Meditation for Kids and Adults. Progressive Aerial Yoga Mini Workshop.

Mindful Meditation for kids

Kids aren’t always as excited as we are about mindfulness practices, like meditation and yoga. But children have a lot to gain from learning how to cultivate mindfulness on their own. Giving kids the tools to help them fend off negative thoughts and behaviors, build self-confidence, focus, and treat others and themselves with respect and appreciation is a gift they will have for the rest of their lives.
Cary Hot Yoga is excited to introduce a new Multi-level kid’s class that is designed to make Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga accessible to children 10 and above.

We use meditation, sound therapy, pranayama (breathing technique), asana (yoga poses), and PLAY to build strength, awaken the senses and further intertwine the mind-body-spirit connection.
Why Mindfulness Meditation is good for children?
Mindfulness provides children with simple, practical tools to work directly with their nervous systems, helping them regulate emotional states and focus attention.
Mindfulness develops life long skill sets for children. According to research conducted by the University of California in conjunction with Mindful Schools, a program that aims to integrate mindfulness into classrooms, benefits of mindfulness practice for young children include:
• Test taking
• Public speaking
• Sports
• Music
• Peer interactions
• Family life

Join us for an 8-week Mindful Meditation Techniques for kids on Friday from 5:30PM to 6:30PM. We’ll explore difference styles from Yoga Nidra, Mindfulness meditation, Mantra meditation. Meditation for adults

Demanding life style can make us become hooked on adrenaline. But waking up our sluggish frontal lobes with an injection of stress has consequences for the body. When we are stressed, adrenal hormones raise our heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar. They also dampen the immune system. The adrenaline junkie is, in effect, paying for focus at high interest rates. Yes, you get a few hours of higher performance, but you pay for those hours in stress on your brain and body.

Meditation is exploring. It’s not a fixed destination. Your head doesn’t become vacuumed free of thought, utterly undistracted. It’s a special place where each and every moment is momentous. When we meditate we venture into the workings of our minds: our sensations (air blowing on our skin or a harsh smell wafting into the room), our emotions (love this, hate that, crave this, loathe that) and thoughts (wouldn’t it be weird to see an elephant playing a trumpet).
Mindfulness meditation asks us to suspend judgment and unleash our natural curiosity about the workings of the mind, approaching our experience with warmth and kindness, to ourselves and others.

Come join us for half an hour of Guided Meditation and stay for Bikram-90 class. Saturday from 8:15AM to 8:45AM.

New teacher for Meditation for adults

Originally from Brazil, Jess is 200 hour Certified Adult Yoga Teacher. She has spent the past 3 years just teaching Yoga and Meditation as a volunteer at Davis Drive Middle School. Her passion for children’s yoga includes a strong belief in the importance of breathing and meditation practices, as all children deserve to know that they can find contentment and peace by going within vs. relying on others or on external sources. Sound therapy is an integral part of her classes and she would describe her practice as meditation in motion.

Join Jess for Children Guided Mindful Meditation on Friday from 5:30PM to 6:30PM and Adult Meditation on Saturday from 8:15AM to 8:45AM.
